A true Christian gentleman Jack performed his many Church roles with unselfish dedication. He had a dry but very funny sense of humour and always had time to stop for a chat.

    He will be greatly missed.

Jack was an institution at the Coffee Club. Everyone knew him and everyone knew where he always sat. He was a customer from the very beginning almost twenty years ago and stayed loyal throughout coming in daily at nine on the dot. I could set my watch by him. He made many friends of both customers and staff. He was a man that was an honour to know. He will always be remembered and terribly missed.

I was saddened to hear on Sunday of the passing of Jack Gregor. My personal memory is of this kindly gentleman who would notice if I was standing alone at coffee after the service and who would quietly come over to keep me company. I had many fine chats with him and will miss him.

My sympathy goes to all Jack’s family and friends,

    Eileen McDonald

We have known Jack for nearly 50 years-first as members of the same Youth Fellowship in Hamilton Memorial Church, Clydebank, and then through more than 40 years here in St. Columba. His contribution to this church and to the Church of Scotland generally, has been immense. E lder, Sunday School Superintendent, Session Clerk, Wise Counsellor – he has trully been an outstanding Servant of the Lord. We will greatly miss him.

Letter from the Kirk Session of West Kirk, Helensburgh:

At our Kirk Session meeting last night (29/10/2008) sorrow was expressed regarding the death of our good friend Jack Gregor.
Jack was a man much admired by us all for his kindness and generosity. He will be much missed, but happily remembered by all his many friends in Helensburgh.
Our thoughts are with you and the congregation of St. Columba at this sad time.

    With God’s blessing,
    David Mitchell (Session Clerk)

Jack’s dignity and humility had a lasting impression on me. in the saime he had a dry but extremely funny sense of humour. We got poorer with his passing. Rest in peace.

Jack made my family feel welcome and part of the St Columba family when we first arrived in Helensburgh, 15 years ago, and we always got a pleasant greeting from him any time we saw him in the town or at Church ever since then. He was Session clerk in those days, and as his health has deteriorated it has been difficult for him to continue to do all that he wanted in the church, but he always kept his troubles to himself, and a smile for us when we saw him. He was clearly a very wise and Christain man, and we will always remember him for all the right reasons!

Jack’s sudden passing is a great loss to us all. His faith, humility and unfailing commitment to the church was a great inspiration to generations. He was a dedicated elder for over fifty years. We will miss you Jack.
